Last night Apple also released iOS 14.2 for the HomePod speaker and iOS/iPadOS 12.4.9 software for older devices. There was also a supplementary update for macOS 10.15.7.

Software version 14.2 introduces improvements for Siri, Intercom functions and home theater mode. It also includes bug fixes and enhancements.

List of changes in iOS 14.2 for HomePod:

  • Intercom functions can be used with iPhone, iPad, Apple Watches, AirPods and CarPlay.
  • When connected to the Apple TV 4K HomePod can play stereo surround sound and Dolby Atmos. Adding a second HomePod allows you to create a more realistic immersive sound experience.

When updated to 12.4.9 and macOS 10.15.7 they contain important security patches and are recommended for all users.
