AudioKit is a company known mainly for its great free Synth One synthesizer and its tools to help developers create music applications for iOS. Yesterday it published its new virtual drum machine, the AR-909, in the App Store.

Although the AR-909 clearly draws inspiration from Roland's classic TR-909 drum machine, it doesn't try to be a faithful virtual copy of it (we probably already have plenty of these), but offers its own sonic character. Here you will find eleven percussion instruments (foot and snare generated by simple synthesizers, the rest based on samples), a built-in sequencer, mixer, limiter and bitcrusher. The AR-909 can work both as a standalone application and an AUv3 plug-in in a compatible DAW program.

The AR-909 application is available for purchase in App Store, where it currently costs $2.99.
